Latest Apple iPads: Prices of iPads and Specifications 2020

Hey there, so you’ve heard about the iPads, the iPhones and the iPods. These are all wonderful pieces of electronic devices made by Apple and in this article we’ll be exploring the world of iPads; we’ll be going over all the prices of iPods, models and you’ll also get to know their respective specifications.

The iPads, What are they?

The iPad is Apple’s brand of tablet computers which gives you all the luxury and eccentricity you’d expect from a tablet. Apple as a brand is synonymous with making premium electronics, added with great style. iPads look and feel premium, all having great cameras, large viewing estate, and matching software. You won’t be able to make use of cellular connection (i.e. Everything that has to do with Sim cards) on some models, that’s normal. Tablets were designed to give you that PC-like experience on a much smaller display and portable package.

Collections of Apple iPads

So far, as is the case with all Apple lines of products, there are four collections of the iPads; The iPad, The iPad Mini, iPad Air, and the iPad Pro.

We’d be doing a slight review of these collections and the models available. So, let’s get to it!

Prices of iPads and Specifications in 2020

The iPad

This collection of Apple devices marked the inception of the iPad brand, this is the original iPad which will then have various iterations in the future. There are 7 devices from the collection;

The iPad

This is the first device in this collection and it packs some “not-so-great” specs when placed side-by-side with modern tablets.

It has a 9.7 inch IPS LCD display panel, 6600 mAh battery capacity, 256MB RAM (that’s what you get for a 2010 iPad), 16/32/64GB storage options, and 3G connectivity.

This iPad didn’t have a camera! As expected, this device has been discontinued but if you still want to get it you could check the price below.

A year later, precisely on March 2, 2011, the second iPad was announced. Some improvements were made and this is how the spec-sheet looks like;

The same screen was used but Apple added an improved Dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics processor, VGA front-facing camera, 720P/0.75MP rear camera was used with 6930 mAh battery capacity, 512MB primary storage, and 16/32/64GB ROM variants.

The process continued the next year-March 7, 2012 as the 3rd generation of the iPad was announced.

Some major improvement was noticed in this generation of iPad, this device sports a 5MP rear shooter, still retaining the VGA front primary camera. For the display, it’s still a 9.7-inch screen but the 2048×1536px display quality makes it much more visually appealing than its predecessors.

It also has a 11,560 mAh battery capacity, 1GB RAM, and 16/32/64GB options for secondary storage. 4G connectivity was introduced to the iPad family with the launch of the 3rd generation iPad.

iPad (5th generation)

So, Apple paused production (for whatever reason) for five years before releasing the 5th iPad. They obviously learned some lessons from the past and they came up with a great iPad – the 5th gen!

Aesthetically, Apple stepped things up a notch by providing three color options; white, silver and gray. The rear camera still spotted a 5MP shooter and 1.2MP for the front, an additional set of 4G bands we’re now supported, better graphics processor, 2GB RAM, 32/64/128GB secondary storage variants and the latest processor. Since you can’t eat your cake and have it, Apple decided to cut down on the battery capacity, the new processor makes up for this.

Late last year, the latest iPad was announced and it was a huge step up from Apple.

A great build quality, 9.7 inch HD display, 3GB RAM, 32 or 128GB of onboard storage and the new iPad OS; makes this device great. You’re given three color choices; silver, space gray and gold. It comes with an 8820 mAh battery which brings all features to live.

The iPad Mini

Another iteration of the iPad, the Mini gives you an iPad experience in a much smaller and portable package.

In the smartphone/tablet world, there’s segmentation of customers because not everyone can easily afford the iPad, or the iPad Pro. So, you could say the iPad Mini is for those with a not-so-deep pocket, but still want to own an Apple tablet. So far, the following devices have been released in the Mini line;

The first iPad Mini was announced in 2012 and packed the following specs.

It sports an 8MP rear camera, 1.2MP front shooter, 5124 mAh battery and 2GB RAM. Strangely, it has 16/64/128GB variants – skipping the 32. Overall it’s a good looking tablet and its 7.9 screen size makes it a little portable.

It has some mouthwatering specifications; the 3 gigabyte RAM is quite huge and helps to ease multitasking. It only has two storage options; 64GB and 128GB, 8MP rear and 7MP front camera, same 5124 mAh battery, but a much better display quality than the iPad mini 4.

iPad Air 3

The Air 3 is a powerful device and checks all the right boxes for a great tablet.

With an HD retina display, the device has 3GB of RAM with the Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset that makes it pretty seamless in navigating this beast. You get two storage options; 64GB and 128GB, that’s enough storage to save your files. Camera specs were also bumped up as it has 12MP rear and 7MP front shooters. Battery life is much better with its 8134 mAh battery.

The iPad Pro

The iPad Pro, the more advanced amongst the iPad line has many breathtaking features and it’s oftentimes being used as a PC because of its large screen size.

The Pros has more functionality, better hardware and software, superb aesthetics, huge storage and battery. In terms of portability, the Pros doesn’t check some boxes due to its size in terms of width and weight.

If you are looking to invest in a tablet that gives you a PC-like experience, then go for the iPad Pro.

iPad Pro 12.9 inch (1st generation)

The first Pro is quite great and has the size of a mini PC, 12.9 inches. Great sturdy build and a good camera. More specifically it has 4GB RAM, 32/128/256GB of secondary storage, 12MP rear iSight camera, 1.2MP HD primary camera and many more interesting features all powered by the 10,307 mAh battery.

iPad Pro 9.7 inch

The 9.7 inch Pro has borrowed quite some specs from the first 12.9 in terms of secondary storage choices and color choices.

Reduction in screen size meant the reduction of certain numbers; so we have; RAM – 2GB, front camera – 5MP, rear camera – 12MP and battery – 7306 mAh.

iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2nd generation)

Great as the 1st gen, this variant imports most numbers from its predecessor and with few differences.

RAM is still capped at 4GB, different storage options; 64/256/512GB ROM, same 7MP front camera but a much wider 12MP rear shooter. You get a whopping 10,994 mAh battery on this beast to last you through the day and more.

Asides screen size and battery, this bad boy here copied virtually everything from the 2nd generation 12.9 inch.

The screen which you should know is a smaller 10.5 inch, and battery; 8134 mAh. You could call this the mini version of the second generation thirteen-inch tablet.

iPad Pro 11 inch (1st generation)

In 2018, the tech giants stepped up their game with the latest addition to the Pro lineup.

This 11-inch display checks the right boxes of a modern tablet (my opinion). You can choose from either the 4GB with 128/256/512GB of internal storage or 6GB RAM with 1TB storage space. For the cameras; it’s a 7MP TrueDepth primary sensor and 12MP at the back, while the battery gets 7812 mAh in terms of capacity.

iPad Pro 12.9 inch (3rd generation)

This is basically an upgrade in terms of size and battery capacity to Pro above. Both tablets were launched the same day at an Apple event, hence the apt similarity in specs.

If you’d be needing a much wider screen then you can go ahead and get this, else I’d advise you stick to 11 inch Pro.

iPad Pro 11 inch (2nd generation)

So, in March 2020 Apple dropped two very dope tablets, these are the latest iPad Pros and they’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from fans worldwide.

One of the tabs is the 11 inch Pro (2nd gen), and it has the best specs you’ll hardly find on most tablets. For your multitasking needs; Apple 6GB RAM with the A13 Bionic makes the difference. It has two great cameras (tablet standard), 12MP wide back camera, and 7MP front-facing shooter. It gives you four secondary storage choices; 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB. The major drawback here would be the 7540 mAh battery, but considering the screen size the battery would last you just fine.
