iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Leaks: Release Date, Prices and Specs

The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro is one of the best things the world is waiting to see, apart from the CoronaVirus’ vaccine. Each year, we are treated to new sets of smartphones by one of the top smartphone makers in the world – Apple. The iPhone 11 saw a bunch of changes and upgrades to its predecessor. We are expecting the same in 2020 as Apple is set to announce the newest iPhone in a few months to come.

We have read a lot of rumors surfacing from different tech websites, suggesting what the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will look, and feel like when it is finally released.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro: Release date, price, specs, and leaks

Despite the fact that these are still rumors, they may not be far from the truth, if we are to follow the trend in recent years.

The iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Release Date

The iPhone 12, alongside three other variants – iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, is due to be released in September or fall 2020 at the earliest, but some reports suggest it could be delayed a little due to the effect of the pandemic.

But while we wait for its launching, let’s see what the highly publicized iPhone 12 will look like;

The iPhone 12 Specs (According to Leaks)

  • DESIGN

We start with the design, and yes, Apple has a way of always nailing it with premium design. As expected, the iPhone 12 would come with an aluminum body which is the same on the iPhone 12 Max. There is a little iteration in this regard on the Pro and Pro Max; as both will be launching with a stainless steel frame and a glass back.

With what we saw on the iPhone 11, it is evident that Apple is beginning to pay attention to the battery complaints of its customers. What does this mean? In order to fit a big battery size, we won’t be seeing a thin iPhone flagship this year. Rather, we are going to see a more boxy-like build (like the iPhone 5) in order to fit in a big battery.

Moving on, we still expect the same item placement as we’ve seen in recent iPhones; on the rear of the devices, we have the Apple branding at the middle, double cameras for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max, while the Pro and Pro Max would spot triple cameras with a LiDAR sensor (more on this below).

Moving to the bottom, we have the double speakers flanking the traditional lightning port. All four devices are IP68 certified, which makes them resistant to water and dust. We should also be seeing a smaller notch in this year’s iPhone 12.

  • DISPLAY

There has been some controversy for a few weeks now about who makes certain display models for the iPhone 12 because Apple doesn’t make its display panels. What we know for sure is; Samsung is the highest supplier of OLED panels to Apple, with Apple also collaborating with other brands to make it’s OLED panels.

This year iPhone 12s will have an OLED panel across all four devices. However, the Pro and Pro Max will also be equipped with 120Hz refresh rate screens, which we saw earlier this year on the iPad Pro. On the flip side, the 12 and 12 Max get to retain the traditional 60Hz display.

We are still uncertain if the 120Hz on the Pro models will be enabled by default, or the users will have to enable it manually from the Settings (which has been the tradition).

Speaking of tradition, none of it is kept in this year’s flagships as there’s an overhaul in screen sizes. We start with the “smaller” iPhone 12 which is definitely smaller than last year’s iPhone 11, as we have a 5.4-inch screen which is a downgrade to the 6.1″ on its predecessor.

The iPhone 12 Max on the other hand seems to retain the 6.1″ display size from last year’s base model. For the Pro and Pro Max; the 12 Pro has a 5.8-inch display which is 0.3 inches smaller than last year’s Pro, while the Pro Max gets a little bigger than last year’s variant with a 6.7-inch display (a 0.2-inch increment).

  • CAMERA

Although we can’t speak on the quality of the shots – since we haven’t seen the actual iPhone 12, we expect the usual from Apple as the number one smartphone camera producer. We should still have the double camera setup on the iPhone 12/12 Max with the iPhone Pro/Pro Max still having the three-camera option with a little change.

Change? Yes, change. We now have the LiDAR (LiDAR mean Light Detection and Ranging) technology on the iPhone 12. This technology uses a laser from the LiDAR sensor to measure the distance and depth between the camera and the object, all these in split seconds.

This means we’re going to see better shots, and a much-improved Face ID if it does come with the iPhone 12 Pro models.

There isn’t much information as to the actual megapixels of these phones, but we should be expecting Apple to retain its 12MP setup with little software enhancements.

  • SOFTWARE/PROCESSOR

With each new iPhone 12 comes a much-improved iOS. This year, we expect lots of improvements from Apple on its OS. We are not certain at this point if we would see an upgrade to the iOS 13 (iOS 14) or an update to the existing software.

Whichever the case may be, expect to see some new features and added functionalities, bug fixes, security patches, and much more.

In the engine room, we are certainly sure about the all-new A14 Bionic chipset from Apple. The A14 comes with a 5nm+ process which would be the fastest processor on any smartphone when it launches.

iPhone 12 will also support the latest 5G bands. All these will make for a much faster and intuitive iPhone 12.

  • MEMORY/STORAGE

One good thing about Apple’s ecosystem is its ability to optimize memory. You are not given an excessive amount of memory that you may not even use; you are given quite enough for all your needs. True, everyone has their own use cases, some get to use more storage than others, this is why Apple gives you different variants, with each variant having at least two storage choices.

This year, we should be expecting quite the same from Apple; the iPhone 12 and 12 Max would most likely get 4GB of RAM, which was the case with the iPhone 11.

For the iPhone 12’s primary storage: we should be getting two storage options – 128GB and 256GB. Conversely, the Pro models of the iPhone 12 would have three choices of primary storage – 128GB/256GB/512GB. Getting the Pro also gives you more numbers in terms of specs, including the 6GB RAM.

And of course, iPhones don’t support secondary storage.

  • BATTERY/CHARGING

Even though this post isn’t a comparison between iOS and Android, we tend to determine the performance of certain aspects in relation to its major competitor – Android. Continuing in that trend, we all know that Android gives you more juice than iOS, some Android OEMs are most times heralded for the battery performance of their smartphones.

However, Apple in the last couple of years has begun showing concern in this regard in a bid to keep its customers. This has led to a bump in the capacity of its latest iPhones. We could see slight increments across the board, this, in addition to the A14 Bionic chipset, should give its users more juice to take them through the day.

We are still uncertain as to when Apple will finally adopt the USB type-C for powering its iPhones, but we might be seeing the regular lightning port on the iPhone 12, according to recent leaks.

Earlier this year, the iPad Pro did launch with the USB type-C and this has fueled the campaign that the same might be seen on the latest iPhones, but a recent photo and video leaks suggest otherwise.

  • PRICE OF IPHONE 12

No one is sure about the price of the iPhone 12 except those who are expected to know (the high profiled members at Apple Inc.)

But Jon Prosser shared on twitter a few weeks ago that the 5.4” of iPhone 12 is going to cost $649, the 6.1” is going to cost $749. While the iPhone 12 Pro will cost $999 and the 6.7” of iPhone 12 Pro Max will cost $1,099.
